July 19, 2011 Semi-Annual Meeting Minutes

The USA National Shuffleboard Association Semi-Annual Meeting was called to order by President Jim Bailey at 7:00 p.m. Est. in Lakeside, Ohio on July 19, 2011, in the Agiler Room. The pledge of allegiance was led by the President. John Brown gave the invocation.

Roll Call of the Members Present and on the Teleconference. Board members present: President Jim Bailey; 1st Vice Gus Bondi; 2nd Vice Bob Zaletel; 3rd Vice Sandi Quinn; Regional Directors John Brown, Jan Crouse and Jeanne Andrews; Secretary Ninfa Bailey and Joe Messier. Many of the Presidents and Delegates were present at the meeting or on the teleconference call. Our Web Master was also on the call.

The President asked for a motion to accept the minutes posted on the internet. Motion was made by Landy Adkins and seconded by Sue Krynak. Motion carried.

Treasurers Report given by Carl Howell. The treasurer’s report is also on the internet. A motion to accept the report as reported by Carl Howell. HOF money of $685.86 was reported which was not included on the printed report on the internet. John Brown made the motion and it was seconded by Landy Adkins. The Treasurer’s Report was audited this spring.

The President read some of the funnier communications he had recently received. Earl Ball wrote a letter about a tournament numbers. The President read the letter.

Joe Messier and Jeanne Andrews mentioned the talking and dog barking in the background of the teleconference. Jim mentioned the rules for the teleconference and the barking stopped and the talking stopped.

A report by the 1st Vice Gus Bondi. Gus spoke about the trip to Russia and how wonderful it was and how cordial the Russian people were to all of the shufflers. He is also working with one of the high schools in Zephyrhills, to put a shuffleboard court and equipment into the gym so the students can learn and play the game. We are trying to get young people involved.

A report from 2nd Vice Bob Zaletel. Bob is also our Publications Committee Chairman. Included on his committee are John Brown and Rob Robinson. He is doing a wonderful job promoting the game of shuffleboard. He is also doing housekeeping of the NSA Constitution typos and some wordings. He lets us know what corrections need to be made and Colleen goes into the Constitution and makes the corrections. A National Tournament Pamphlet has been developed by Bob and Rob and has been distributed to the different representatives from the different Eastern States. The Western States have also received theirs. This pamphlet was printed by Cal-Am Properties at no cost to NSA. Since 2005 we had eight states and now we have 22 or 23 states and we are experiencing "Growing Pains" per Gus Bondi. He has or is in the process of developing a Blueprint of How to Set-up, Organize and Play the game of Shuffleboard, anything and everything you want to know about Shuffleboard. Under New Business, he will be asking for funding from the NSA.

Report from 3rd Vice Sandi Quinn. Sandi reported and read the five 10-Day Notices. A short (three minute) discussion of each followed.

One 10-Day Notice had been revised by Sue Krynak and submitted last fall so the correct 10-Day Notice was submitted. Jim Bailey had submitted one also that was not included in the original count for a total of six. They are on the Internet for your inspection and if more clarification is necessary, please contact the writer of the 10- Day Notice. You will receive a copy in the fall for your approval or disapproval. Sandi also mentioned that Hall of Fame Nominees are slow coming in to her. The closing date is November 10 to be considered for 2012.

A Special Note from the President and some Board Members. A person choosing to call out or find fault with a 10-Day Notice because of hard feelings will not be tolerated. I was embarrassed along with other board members. Jim Bailey, President.

George Adkins is on the Rules Committee. He suggested that we should form a committee to see how the 10-Day Notices affect the game of Shuffleboard. The President agreed with George and will meet with a committee before the 10-Day Notices go out for a vote.

Our Web Master Colleen Austin notified every one of occasional delays she is experiencing with the web site.

Regional Directors’ Reports:

S/E District Jeanne Andrews - Nothing to report. She said she hadn’t received information in time for the meeting.

N/E District John Brown - He has been promoting shuffleboard throughout his district. He has eight states in his area and if he is asked questions, he will answer any and all.

Western States Jan Crouse - She reported from Arizona that "We are hard at work with the East - West Goodwill Games in Sun City, Arizona to be played on September 14-20, 2011. We have 64 players participating in the games so far. The West is looking for Sweet Revenge. All of our states have been working hard looking forward to a wonderful shuffleboard season starting with the National Team event in November. As you know, it is the largest team tournament in the world. Good Luck USA in Dieppe."

Unfinished Business:

An Audit was done on the January Treasurers Report and has been on the Web Site. A motion to accept the January Treasurers’ Report was made by Landy Adkins and seconded by John Brown. Motion passed.

A reminder was made by Jim Bailey about the World Singles in Dieppe. We would like to wish them GOOD LUCK. As a special request, we now have three men and three women openings. The Russian Team has decided not to send a team. We will miss our new Shuffleboard friends that we were looking forward to seeing again. If interested, apply to Michael Zellner. You still have time to apply.

New Business:

A formal request to host the E/W Goodwill Games of 2012 in Hendersonville, North Carolina has been received from Jay Fitzpatrick. Rob Robinson of Seattle, Washington would like to host the 2013 E/W Games in Seattle and will send Gus Bondi a formal request.

Nominating Committee Report – Sandi Quinn, John Brown and Chuck Crouse

Sandi presented the Slate of Officers and repeated the office three times for votes from the floor. President, First and Second Vice stand with no challenge from the floor. Two names were submitted for Third Vice, Jeanne Andrews and Rob Robinson. For Treasurer, only one nominee was submitted, George Adkins. He will take over in January. All of the other offices are assigned by the incoming President, Gus Bondi. A ballot will be sent out in the fall for your vote after November 10. A motion was asked to have the Slate stand as read, by Stan Quinn and seconded by Jan Crouse. Motion carried.

An application for States Memberships was discussed earlier. A 10-Day Notice will be going out in the fall so we will forgo any more discussion at this time.

Rob Robinson spoke about the ISA Team Tournament being held next year in Seattle, Washington on August 1- 8, 2012. Glen Monroe will be Tournament Director. Come and have a good time. Rob will be bringing a package to Dieppe for all of the countries.

Bob Zaletel spoke for a few minutes about "The Shuffleboards Blueprint," 40 pages of directions on the how and whys of setting up a shuffleboard. He has $300.00 donated from businesses and he is asking for $300.00. I would like to put it out to the people in the fall asking them if they want to give the $300.00 for these books. Rob Robinson spoke up and said he will donate from his business the $300.00 needed for the first publication of these books. Also, we will still ask the people of the NSA to approve $300.00 for more books.

Earl Ball made a comment that "We are the ones this book is geared toward and we as people in this room and on the telephone conference are going to be the ones doing all of the work along with everything else we do. We would have to find the time to do this work also."

Bob Zaletel spoke up, "Since everyone is of the opinion that Shuffleboard is going downhill, maybe if not you in Florida, maybe someone else would be willing. At least it is a start. It may turn out to be a flop but at least we would have tried."

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Arnie Anderson and seconded by Jeanne Andrews. Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Est.

ANNUAL MEETING AT TRAILER ESTATES on January 23, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Est. A message regarding the Teleconference information will be sent two days prior to the meeting.
